Accessibility statement
How accessible this site is, honestly.
A standard about welcome should be usable by everyone who reads it. This page says what we have done, what we have not done yet, and how to get any of it in a way that works for you.
What we have done
- Every page is tested against WCAG 2.2 AA with automated tools before publication, at desktop and phone widths, in normal and calm mode. Current result: no failures.
- Body text is Atkinson Hyperlegible at 17px with generous line spacing; headings are Baloo 2. Text resizes to 200% without loss.
- Colour contrast is 4.5:1 or better everywhere text appears; nothing relies on colour alone. The site follows your system's light or dark preference.
- Every image has a description; decorative images are hidden from screen readers. The animated mark on the home page stops when your system asks for reduced motion, and in calm mode.
- Proper headings and landmarks on every page, a skip link, full keyboard navigation with visible focus rings, and menus that work without JavaScript.
- Calm mode removes motion and remembers your choice on this device. No cookies, no analytics and no flashing content. Short silent Glitterbomb clips play only while they are on screen, can be paused with one button on the page and never play in calm mode or when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Forms have labels, no time limits, and never require your name.
- Every document is published as a web page, not only as a PDF. The free guide and the documents are tagged PDFs with headings, reading order and alternative text.
- The readiness check works with a keyboard and a screen reader, announces your results as you answer and needs no account.
What is not right yet
| Issue | What we are doing |
|---|---|
| The poster and QR card PDFs are not tagged for screen readers. | Their content is on the support section of every page. Tagged versions to follow. |
| The map is a picture. | It has a full text description and every place on it is listed beside it. |
| No British Sign Language summary. | A BSL video of the Ten when funds allow, by the end of the first year. |
| The Easy Read version has not been checked by a learning disability organisation. | Being arranged. The caveat comes off when it has. |
| Testing so far is automated. | A screen reader review by daily NVDA and VoiceOver users before the first venue is badged; findings published here. |
